Writing formulas for polyatomic compounds


1.- Write the symbols for each substance with the positive one first.

2.- Think the ionic charge for each symbol.

3.- Crisscross the numbers and write them as subscripts.

Examples:
Calcium nitrate – Ca (NO3)2
Lead (II) phosphate – Pb2 (PO4)3
