Summary Romeo & Juliet - Act V


Scene I

Balthasar has been convinced that Juliet has died and lies in a tomb and brings Romeo the news of it. When Romeo arrives he lays in Juliet‘s tomb, mourning over her. Romeo then challenges faith and seeks apothecary to sell him illegal poison.

Scene II

The plans Friar Laurence has set have failed due to Father John's inability to distribute the message to
Romeo of the affects of the poison due to someone having the plague. Friar Laurence comes up with a plan to possibly solve this tragic situation. Friar Laurence heads to Juliet‘s tomb to awaken Juliet and prepare Juliet for Romeo‘s arrival.

Scene III

Paris and Page arrived in the churchyard outside the Capulet‘s tomb. Paris wanted time alone with Juliet, so he ordered Page to stay hidden in the distance to warn him of someone's presence with a whistle. Paris challenges Romeo to a fight but is killed in the process. As Romeo dies due to the poison he drinks, Friar Laurence makes his arrival and sees Paris and Romeo dead and Juliet awakening. At this point the families arrive. Friar Laurence tells the story of Romeo and Juliet’s marriage. The prince then scolds both families and both families agree to put their blood feud behind them.
